Copper

Copper Grade A is the LME’s second most traded metal.

The so-called red metal is one of the most important metals. It is malleable, ductile, and a good conductor of heat and electricity (second only to silver in electrical conductivity). Because copper is very soft, it is alloyed with other metals to make brass (copper and zinc) and bronze (copper and tin).

Copper is extremely decorative, one of the few metals to naturally occur as an uncompounded mineral. It has been used for centuries by numerous civilisations to make jewellery and coins.

Copper is mined in the US, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Australia, Zambia and China. It is used in circuit boards, electrical wiring, plumbing, cathode rays, statuary, brass musical instruments, cooking utensils, coinage and roofing.
